i wanna add here that not only is, as people have pointed out, the midnight mass scene inspired by the two older nosferatu movies, but the very specific motion of pulling the vampire’s head back towards you so he keeps drinking is a direct callback to herzog’s nosferatu (which is very good btw, and which arguably eggers was a lot more inspired by than by the original)
