the entity of manipulation would have worked a lot better if it relied on the fear of manipulation without actual manipulation underneath, which feeds a lot more into the paranoia.
Are we going to talk about how unnecessarily poetic and romantic it was when Elias said “when you came to me […] I knew it had to be you”? The moment of recognition, a sculptor realising he couldn’t ask for finer clay…
i love your choice of metaphor bc this is a parallel jon draws between gabriel and deborah and himself and elias
If I post abt the music I’m listening to and even 1 single person listens and enjoys it that’s a win to me. I love music so much oh God what is that

actually when youre really badly hurt time isnt a line its more shaped like a flower! so the petals round the edge are pretty little escape trajectories, some are big and some are small but they all arc away and then back to the centre! and then in the centre in the centre in the centre in the centre in the centre in the in the in the in in in in i i i i i i
fic idea: s3 Jon reads a statement about someone’s fear of getting replaced/slowly changing without realising until they are a caricature of their former self with no one in their life noticing because they don’t actually know them. Jon wondering post statement if something is similar is happening to him. is he changing into something else or is he just not pretending being someone he never was anymore. do the people around him accept him as a monster because he really is one or they just don’t know him?
cut to s4, post coffin but pre hus feeding habits revealed, Jon finds either a second part of the statement or one somehow related to it. Jon thinks back on his previous musings and decides that he is more himself than he has ever been. he isn’t sure if it’s a bad thing
There was no way TMA wouldn’t have me in it’s grip from its very first episode. It opens up to Jon bitching about workplace incompetence while working in a place where workplace competence is very much not needed for the uninstructed listener (research institute for paranormal affairs). We don’t yet know what he did prior to being assigned to the archives but he has opinionsTM about people who waste his time with fake paranormal stories, instead of making his job worth it with the real paranormal stories he’s actually interested in. The world is going to shit and Jon’s biggest problem is other people being annoying and making his life specifically more difficult, which is objectively their worst crime. Elias is mentioned from the get-go. And he hates Martin <3 Best opening of all time actually
Jon feels a lot but has very very little empathy which is both very relatable and also so so interesting to me. He’ll get extremely attached to people he barely knows and then not realize that his friend is pissed at him for stalking him. He’s so??? Interesting??? Gets so deeply attached to a woman he talked to once because she made him feel like maybe he wasn’t the only one going through hell that he literally kills for her, but doesn’t understand why Martin would be so different after three people seemingly died. Low empathy jon the beloved you will always be real to me.
Since the tma posting is back in full force among mutuals I will say that as much as I see the vision of interpreting avatarhood as primarily a system of who gets to inflict suffering vs receive it, the fact that many avatars on some level genuinely love and find beauty in their entity is still a very important aspect to me. Yes it’s about luck and cosmic unfairness, but it can also be about “you’ve found meaning and beauty in something most people find horrifying, but because of how different your perception is from others’ you can now no longer interact with them without hurting them”.
so. jonah magnus character study webweaving masterpost (following chronological tma timeline):
“To a man devoid of blinders, there is no finer sight than that of the intelligence at grips with a reality that transcends it. The sight of human pride is unequaled. No disparagement is of any use. That discipline that the mind imposes on itself, that will conjured up out of nothing, that face-to-face struggle have something exceptional about them. To impoverish that reality whose inhumanity constitutes man’s majesty is tantamount to impoverishing him himself.

If trench warfare were made-up, it would be the most on-the-nose anti-war satire ever created. Bunch of young men shooting at each other from inside open graves, slowly rotting even as they fight to stay alive. Every so often, they get to move a few hundred metres to dig a new grave for themselves somewhere else and this is called a victory.
I was so excited I forgot to show anything other than the front. This is a tarot deck box, I’ll do a test fit when I’m home from the studio. I could maybe do a handful of these to sell if there’s interest!
The holes in the side are necessary in order to have enough light on the pupil for it to be properly visible; the white glaze also helps with that! And the front is black for the same reason– it helps bring the shadowy interior into the same color grade in a way that a pale lid would not.
