I don’t think the text suggests Jonah is under the impression that other people’s lives have less value than his own. In fact, I would argue that his philosophy appears refreshingly devoid of hypocrisy and entitlement, and is based on the idea that nothing has an inherent value assigned by a higher meaning. Everything is equally worthless, and he can therefore do whatever he wants.
