i love characters who lie. i love when a character is established as a capital L Liar and then we as the audience can’t take anything they say at face value. i love liars fakers schemers deceivers. characters whose tongues are outright necrotic with the rot of their lies. characters to whom truth is a stranger. i am kissing them on the lips btw it tastes disgusting
my favorite ship dynamic is betrayal. not when they betray each other but when one or both of them turn against their cause, their principles and/or loved ones for the other. bonus points if the person they’re abandoning everything for didn’t remotely expect it. ultimate declaration of love. “you mean more to me than everything i ever believed in. i am more loyal to you than my conscience. i love you more than the thing i would die for.”
at the end of it,
you’re always just the point of someone else’s story, everyone clamoring
to say what you were, what you meant, and your thoughts on it all don’t
mean nothing.
i think that either woobifying peter lukas OR pretending that his backstory isn’t, you know, intensely sad miss something about the story-telling.
because the way that peter was raised is tragic. he tries so hard to make it sound like it wasn’t absolutely abhorrent and it didn’t leave him with this gaping hole, but it did.
but unlike evan, who took whatever the intensely hard road was out of the lukas house and into happiness and companionship on the other side, peter took his misery and bottled it and then decided to inflict it on others.
I love that the Lukas family worked so hard to make Peter the perfect avatar and they’re so pleased with how he turns out and he’s just this obnoxiously chatty manchild who throws their money into projects that achieve jack shit, is defeated by a newspaper, gets repeatedly manipulated, and dies because he was having a tantrum.
So Peter seems like he’d be an incredibly, incredibly touch starved character, given his horrific childhood and his tendency to spend 99% of his time hiding inside his ship cabin. He’s like the poster child for intimacy issues. And Elias knows this and takes full advantage, because he likes how simple things like handshakes or a hand on Peter’s back shake his composure.

They are only human A twist in canon in which most of the pupulation are descendants of supernatural creatures. Lonelyeyes of course, but we can see the archive crew pov occasionally too.

I’m obsessed with the fact that, even with so much ritual sabotage going on (the hunter in Simon’s ritual, the avatar of the Slaughter that “stopped” the Unknowing), Jonah’s first attempt at the Watcher’s Crown only failed because the ritual itself was flawed.
