Few takes annoy me as pettily as the idea that Jonah’s “good… luck…” was OG Elias taking over in his final moments. I say pettily because it’s not among the worst takes I’ve seen (I think capitalist Elias takes that particular cake–pun intended), but it does cheapen the scene a lot to me.
no wait im coming back to this cause its so annoying, like. you have to WILLFULLY ignore all the times in the show it explicitly states that OG Elias is dead. erased. completely gone.
going so far as to ignore what is literally canon just because you dont want to examine what jonah telling jon ‘good luck’ could mean. people are so adverse to nuance in jonah’s character jfc
Yeah. Yeah. And on top of that, it’s also a way to cling to the image of Jonah begging for his life, as if the “good luck” line weren’t the very thing that saves the scene from being fully Disneyesque in its indulgence to the audience that wants to see him dead.
Sorry. This is a semimonthly post at this point, but I’m still not over the fact that a story that could’ve been a fascinating exploration of how people react to fear in vastly different ways, shifting blames or clinging to normalcy or stepping over everyone else trying to claw their ways into some semblance of control, ended up doing barely anything with those themes for the sake of, uh, cute podcast gays, I guess.
