annabelle–cane:

trying to figure out how jon would realistically relate to his queerness is a bit of a never ending conundrum, because, on the one hand, he’s a super emotionally repressed and ashamed person who spends a lot of his arc at turns feverishly adhering to and trying to free himself from a highly gendered performance of class. his instinctive response to feeling vulnerable is to cover up his emotions, deepen his voice, exaggerate his accent, and make it look like he’s above all those weak-willed credulous idiots to disguise the fact that he very much feels like a weak-willed credulous idiot. he’s so used to ignoring his emotions that he can’t even figure out what they are when directly asked by his dearest loved one, and he’s got a, shall we say, Bad relationship to his body and his feelings of ownership over it.

on the other hand, he uses terminology like “male presenting” in his own private notes, he exclusively wears his ex gf’s clothes for two months without batting an eyelid, he has basically no reaction at all to finding out other people in his social circle are queer, he dgaf about experiencing homophobic microaggressions, and his romantic relationship with a man is potentially the only thing in the entire show that he isn’t paranoid about fucking up and losing. to me this paints a picture of a person who has manged to internalize really quite crushing and life-altering queerphobia about everything except, somehow, for his actual queerness. he thinks he’s a lily-livered spineless wimp and an inhuman heartless abomination but that has nothing to do with his biromantic asexuality.

Why are the horrors calling you “babygirl”? 🤨

in general I think I have a weak spot for sunk cost fallacy characters. no point in trying to change because there’s no going back! can’t stop now because the possibility of being wrong is too unbearable to face head on and would destroy me if I tried!

joeyclaire:

any truly good character is somewhere on the asexual and/or aromantic spectrum but, and this is crucial, would never identify as such

kairos-polaris:

Elias Bouchard is not a twink because the word twink describes an effeminate queer man in late teens/early twenties who is slim, boyish and has a youthful appearance. And let’s be real, none of this describes Elias. He isn’t even effeminate! His style is canonically old fashioned, Rosie having described his old fashioned hairstyle looking out of place on his youthful face. People think of him as twink because straight people started using it when they mean faggot.

peter/elias and jonah/multiple lukas men throughout the generations is an incredible concept i have blogged at length about how the eye and the lonely are seemingly opposite patrons but are actually dependent on one another to function and how much elias and peter’s individual devotions to their masters stand at odds to their devotion to one another and how their professional relationship grates against their romantic one and then the broader lonelyeyes landscape is somehow exclusively “elias showed hole for institute funding lmao that is so funny and also demeaning because i think sex workers and gay men are two laughable categories of non-human person i am a funny and progressive fandom blogger btw”

queermasculine:

never “look inside” yourself btw i just tried it and there was already someone in there looking back it was so awkward

hissing growling fandom flanderization of elias bouchard is killing me again. no he would not wear onceler green. he would not wear eye jewelry. he would not wear jewelry at all. he’s not a gag in an eternal string of marriages and divorces with peter lukas

he looks like a normal man. *that’s the point.* he’s a very normal person who just happens to have the same colour eyes as all his predecessors. he likes doing spreadsheets on wednesdays. genuinely likes them. the mundane is exciting, because it means he’s alive!

he’s not… vibrant. he’s very purposefully understated and likes being that.

magnuspanoptes:

forgot to say this in that post but very funny how people think elias will just turn into a cartoon fail villain if someone other than jon was archivist and would have all his plans foiled within five minutes. i know people do it because they hate him and can’t engage with his character sincerely for like, five seconds, but be serious. he’s an extremely competent villain and if your fave is not named season five jon or gertrude (and even she got shot), they would not. in fact. survive him :)

insuspensa:

“Ah, Mr. Bouchard. So sorry to keep you waiting. Please, take a seat, and we’ll begin.”

i feel like not enough ppl talk about the fact Georgie is like. Brain damaged. Obviously she has mobility and can advocate for herself but having an entire part of your brain shut off is very much a disability.

I don’t like how people depict her as being 100% high functioning most rational and emotionally stable person in the cast when ever scene she’s in sorta hints the opposite to me

Like shes incredibly blunt, talks over people in conversations, and has admitted she has to like. mask. in front of people by acting like shes so worried when she doesnt actually care.

obviously it never comes across as mean or rude. but it is sorta. there. We don’t see a lot of her in ‘normal’ situations but i dont think its a stretch to assume she might have problems respecting other people’s feelings, has trouble establishing habits, or struggles to motivate herself for necessary, boring tasks like cleaning or making appointments.

idk its hard to talk about what i think are hints of her being disabled without it sounding liek 'WeLl In HeR SiTuAtIoN ItS JuStIfIeD’ like don’t careeee if she was right or wrong i care that her pattern of behavior is like mine before I got on lamotrigine.

that scene where Jon is trying to talk about the murder mystery he’s embroiled in and she’s like 'why are you even an archivist you probably suck at that job’ and just like. wont drop it. no matter how he tries to steer her back to their actual conversation. how do you get to that scene and think she’s neurotypical. c'mon.

randomly remembered how deeply i cared about the (canon. canonical.) elias/gertrude dynamic wherein she was his rabid attack dog that he would sic on avatars that stepped a toe out of line. rabid guard dog is a character archetype so rarely if ever embodied by a woman (please do not cite daisy to me daisy never guarded anything daisy never worked in service for anyone she was a rabid mutt but she never had a handler) and it’s just so special to me to have a prim hands-off startched white collar by-the-book bureaucrat elias and a cold, determined, methodically murderous gertrude who nevertheless was dependent on the institute both to feed and to fulfill the sole purpose of her life. a proud prized hound who would, every time until that fateful final time, faithfully be brought to heel by the man she hated and who she owed. that’s insane.

this is an aspect of brutal pipe murder that i find soooo delicious like elias was outsourcing his dirty work for so long because that is what was convenient!! he was sending gertrude to murder people and avatars in cold blood because that is what suited him. gertrude had a unique talent for disrupting rituals, but elias could easily have matched her for raw physical brutality. he chose not to because that wasn’t what worked best for him. he preferred their arrangement.
