If you’re going to compare Martin Blackwood and Barnabas Bennett, you have to contrast them. They’re opposites except for
“trapped in the Lonely by a Lukas”… which was when Barnabas
begged for rescue ineffectually while Martin said he was fine (because
mind control).
Martin dropped out of school at 17 to support his mother, which he wouldn’t have had to do if he had any other financial resources or social support. Barnabas was so high status that he thought no judge would find in Mordecai Lukas’s favour if he simply refused to repay his loan.
Martin fell in love with a guy who spent a while insulting/stalking him, so I think we can say that he gets attached, like, relatively easily? Barnabas said that “I have no one in the world whose absence truly pains me.”

Jonah magnus was unhinged as hell going through Beholding puberty and bennett was like his only normal friend. Do you realize how funny that is
So, Albrecht, you don't remember your death, right? Do you have any idea how you ended up 200 years in the future?

To say I don’t remember would be…disingenuous of me. I do remember those final months and moments. The pain, anguish, and fear…
The most wracking of pains that strained my mind and body.
I remember the Doctor’s visit. Him standing by my bedside with concern.
I wish I had been a better husband. A better lover.
Could have helped the man I would give the entire world for. Yet when I searched the world for him, I never could find a trace…
I do not know how I am here again. I have no affiliation to the Dread Powers that Jonah was ever so fascinated by… But all that matters to me is that my beloved is here. This time I will not lose him.
Perhaps in this time, in this life, we can properly be wed.
