i think jonelias should always be about jonah’s desperation to be understood. i think he should cling to jon with both hands and sob and beg “please, please, please don’t leave, not you, you can’t leave, i need you, i need you to listen, i need to be heard, i need to be seen.”
I wanted to draw this lad normally but the urge to green squiggle was too great :>
[ID: Magnus Archives fanart of Jon Sims sitting at his desk, clicking a tape recorder and beginning to read a statement. Much of the background is filled by the snaking green coils of Jon’s speech bubble, which contains the opening lines of MAG75- A Long Way Down.
The next two paragraphs are the statement text; otherwise, the ID ends here.
Jon reads: “Statement of Stephen Walker, regarding his brother’s disappearance from the top of Tour Montparnasse in October 2006.
Original statement given November 7th 2006.
Audio recording by Jonathan Sims, Head Archivist of the Magnus Institute, London.
Statement begins.
"I hope my brother is dead. He must be dead. I would love to believe that this is all some elaborate prank, some bizarre attempt to fake his own disappearance, but deep down I know that’s not my…” End ID]
It’s just. Ahhhhhh. Pristine dynamic. Boss/employee, for one, but also absolute sass and absolute cool head? It’s just so funny to have elias lose his cool because of tim. And they are both SUCH horndogs. And tim really doesn’t like elias, or at least has a million reasons to dislike him. It’s perfect
Also they are the “fuck you” “fuck me yourself” dynamic
another big difference between tma and tmagp is that in tma, the listener is essentially on the same page as jon at all times. you know what he knows, and when he discovers something new, he immediately tells you. but in tmagp, everyone already knows more than you. and they won’t tell you. you just have to try to listen in at the right time.
it’s kind of tied to tape recorders; in tma, your existence as the listener is justified. it has a purpose. you are the tape recorder. that’s why you get to know everything. in tmagp, you’re not supposed to be listening. what you get is scattered, contextless scenes, starring people who don’t know that you’re listening.
most of the time i picture s3 tim with shoulder-length hair that covers his ears, and s3 elias with shoulder-length hair that never actually touches his shoulders because it’s always behind his ears.
timelias is appealing because it’s the worst thing that could happen to either of them. imagine how devastating it would be for tim to be attracted to the most annoying, boring, corporate bitch ever. like his one interesting trait is that he’s evil. and on the other hand, elias would be forced to come to terms with the fact that his most irritating employee is, in fact, hot. and it would be so entertaining for literally everyone else
[ID: Magnus archives fan art, Jonathan sims is in the foreground holding a handful of worms, he appears horrified, the creatures swarm the image and create most of the background.. Some of them bury themselves into Jon. Timothy stoker is in the background, trying to fend off the worms with a fire extinguisher, he is facing away from the viewer. The lighting is dark but there is a bright yellow light lighting up Jonathan sims face and a dimmer blue light backlighting Timothy stoker. End ID]
nikola design <3 she’s a matryoshka doll and when she’s killed the outer layer dies but there’s a slightly smaller version of her inside that crawls out and goes on with its life about 2 feet shorter than before
The thing about Simon Fairchild in The Magnus Archives - the thing that’s fascinating to me - is that he didn’t have to do anything wicked to become an Avatar. He did wicked things later, once he’d become an Avatar, but to achieve Avatarship in the first place, all he had to do was make beautiful art of the Vast and fall in love with it.
And it seems as though the Vast fell in love back such that when he fell, the Vast couldn’t bear to see him perish, and so he flew.
Simon goes on and on about how insignificant he is, but the literal god of the insignificance of humanity is invested in him, personally.
The other fascinating thing about Simon is that despite almost certainly having been raised Catholic and experiencing his miracle in a literal Catholic Church, he does not attribute his salvation to the Christian God. I wonder what drove that realization?
i know it probably won’t be this BUT i’ve been entertaining myself thinking about what if alice and sam find the tape with episode 200 (maybe minus the part with basira n friends) in the ruins of the magnus institute and they just stare at each other like:
while listening to
guy from computer doing a murder
guy from computer lore dumping
SECOND guy from computer yelling at guy from computer for doing a murder
GUYS FROM COMPUTER ARE GAY FOR EACH OTHER? love wins.
what’s this about traveling other dimensions?
second guy from computer doing a murder. love loses.
honestly maybe i’m so obsessed with jonah magnus because he feels like a the locked tomb character. yeah he wants to become an extension of his god. as an expression of devotion. and he doesn’t understand why the protagonist finds this concept horrifying. he wants so badly to be used and consumed by the only thing he’s ever been truly in love with. and he even wants so badly to live. sir you are in the wrong piece of queer media
I am completely in love with your jonelias art <3 I love all your art but the jonelias one especially gives me life <3 Elias feeding Jon when? Uhh Elias really taking Jon out for dinner to make him eat properly when???? Love that you mentioned this in the tags of your latest piece
You can draw anything you want of course, I'm only joking haha, unless uhhhh 👁👁
One of my hobbies is listening to the tma q&a with jonny and Alex and clipping out bits that I’m like, this is just martin and Jon bickering. The girls are fighting. This conversation could happen in season 5 and I would not bat an eye.
