June 2025

i‘m about to start a campaign with my friends, for most of us our first one, and one of us lives in another country. you gmed during covid, how did you make the game accessible to everyone? did you use any specific programs?

thanks!!

So I have run a lot of games remotely and I can say with absolute experienced authority that I am NOT an authority on this subject.

Back in the day, due to recording limitations I would literally have to call people via Skype and then share battle maps via a shared access to a Google Sheet with coloured cells.

Eventually I did progress to using Roll 20 with interactive maps etc. but I hardly scratched the surface of what it could do due to being distracted monitoring recording equipment and everything I used is now wildly out of date and irrelevant.

Sorry to disappoint.

Attending Empire Larp

So I am going to do something that is normally incredibly unwise and tell y'all where I am going to be ahead of time.

If you are attending Empire LARP in the UK this week, you can find me running Hadrian’s Hall in the Urizen camp.

Just remember, I will be in character and so will try to sell you a drink and/or threaten to cut your arms off.

You have been warned.

Any highlights from the LARP? I was one of the many bards that ended up gathered by Hadrian's Hall Saturday night - had no idea you were running it!!

Since you asked:

Friday: Tending bar till 3am, apparently I’ve still “got it”.

Saturday: Went monstering and ended up being made leader of the elite units, destroyed my voice then my body. Came back to discover I had accidentally become the hot bar of Empire. Turned down purchase offers, met imperial taster, hosted an orchestra (sort of), got pressganged into blind knife fighting and a tug of war (winning both and showing off outrageously) also a light amount of running through the woods murdering people.

Sunday: Awake bright eyed and bushy tailed. Go to battle, get traumatic wound meaning I can’t run, lose the same leg 6 times, get cut off, haemorrhage 36 hit points (for reference base players have 2 TOTAL) then die. There was nothing left for a funeral.

Need to work on a new, less vanilla character now people know me but I can confirm a relative will inherit Hadrian’s Hall and it will stay in business.

TLDR: My first character finally got everything he wanted then immediately got turned into hamburger meat. He burned like a comet then fucked off just as fast.

Is there even a slight chance of Outliers season 3? Or anything new from Cry Havoc?? I adore historical fiction and podcasts and these two were the absolute perfect combination, I truly wish they could be more popular..

So likelihood of Outliers Season 3 is essentially zero.
That show was commissioned and paid for by Historic Royal Palaces (the people who look after the Tower of London etc.) and although it was a smashing success by their required metrics I believe everyone who worked on the project at their end has moved on to other jobs by now. Since HRP holds the rights that means we can’t touch it and I doubt anyone at their end even remembers it exists now!

Cry Havoc doesn’t have much chance for a sequel either.
I personally fought disproportionately long and hard as Executive Producer to get that project to exist and I am incredibly proud of the finished project and everyone’s work on it. It’s arguably the technically “best” thing we have made. That said, something on that scale carries a massive opportunity cost i.e. making that precludes us making anything else and we have other stories to tell. I don’t feel bad about it though as the story ends really nicely as is.

what changed your opinion on kissing in audio between archives and protocol?

Nothing.

It’s still gross and disgusting and I still hate it.

But when you have big relationships in smaller timeframes kissing is an unfortunate side-effect.

not a question but please please check out what a bunch of us RQG fans made to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the first episode!! RQG is still so loved 10 years later!!!

Hey!
Thanks for this and as always, a glorious celebration! I would say though I mostly remember all the Player Characters as horrendous little gremlins who’s sole job was to ruin everything beautiful I made for them. Some of these depictions look almost… wholesome… from a certain point of view…

Good job all and apols for taking a while to respond. It’s been a busy old time for me recently!

thoughts on the cube rule of food? i was talking about this with my friends the other day and people had some interesting takes

https://cuberule.com/ - a detailed breakdown of the cube rule of food

I like it.

I already use my own cube rule of food though:

1) Can the food be crushed into a cube?
2a) If yes, do so, then eat.
2b) If no, do not eat.

mr quill i’m very confused

what is the difference between magnus live statement begins and magnus live the hilltop ?

i know that the hilltop is a play and that’s about it. (additionally, as an american who cannot afford to come to london twice a year, will the play end up somewhere online?)

This is a good example of a question best asked of the actual company Rusty Quill via mail@rustyquill.com but I’ll do my best to help this one time.

“Magnus Live” just means “a live show related to the Magnus Archives Franchise in some way”

The Hilltop is a full theatrical production of a new canonical play set in The Magnusverse. It is a Kickstarter reward that we are giving a first look of this year that should then have a limited UK tour later. It’s directed by me and features some familiar faces.

Statement Begins is a more casual standard podcast liveshow featuring Jonny and I reading some classic statements and having a talk about all things Magnus. It was proposed as part of the RQ 10 year celebrations and is run by our events dept. It does not feature new canonical content and I am very much just appearing in that as “the talent” *shudders*.

To my understanding both shows are being recorded but I cannot speak confidently as to how/when they will be made available nor to who because that depends on loads of factors including 3rd party licensing stuff I don’t have a say in.

Hope that helps.

Is there going to be a way to watch the rusty Quill 10th anniversary stream afterwards? the timezones mean I would have to basically pull an all nighter on a Sunday night / Monday morning and I don't think I can justify that lol

This is another one that is better asked of official company channels. I am feeling generous today so shall answer but I’m not in the habit of answering logistics stuff like this otherwise I just become an uninformed helpdesk.

Answer: I assume yes? If its streamed on our Twitch channel its almost always available after the fact and I can’t imagine why it wouldn’t be. That said, I am not running this event I am just being asked to appear in it so I am not a voice of authority here.

Assuming he existed in the protocol universe, would Albrecht Von Closen or his sons mentioned in MAG 127 have heard of Heinrich Unheimlich? Given the timeline, I assume they likely would have existed around the same time?

I don’t have an official answer for this one but I don’t see any issues off the top of my head so… sure, why not?
