if needles hugged mr bonzo, do you (noncanonically, knee-jerk) think he’d pop like a balloon? or would he texturally be more like putty? pepperoni?
Hmm, I think it would more be like piercing rotten chicken stuffed inside a nerf football that’s covered in perished rubber. But that’s just a kneejerk response, don’t quote me on that.
Who do you think would win in a fight between The Boneturner and Mr bonzo?
Why on earth would they fight? That’s the steamiest romance of 2025.
Sir boss man, Alexander J Newall.
I've been stuck on tma/tmp for the past however long now.
I just saw a post of yours mentioning fluff.
Is there a place for us(magnusiners[I will never use this term again,]) to like submit stuff for that? Or do you just go search around for that kind of stuff?
I think you misunderstand. For Season 1 Jonny has been forced to write a fluff episode himself. I am writing the “what if” episode.
That said, whilst it’s always nice to hear how people engage with our work we don’t have any formal method for taking submissions for stuff such as this.
Is there ever a possibility for your/rusty quill’s work to be adapted into different mediums, or is it a hard “no, we won’t be doing this”?
I mean sure there is a possibility but it’s much harder than you think and ultimately isn’t really up to me. When adapting to a new medium it’s on the people already in that medium to open the door for you. It’s nigh impossible to do without someone giving you a helping hand. We’ll keep trying though because we think it would be cool but I wouldn’t hold your breath or anything.
Hello boss man!
So like
What would one have to do to get that Easter special back into Spotify for those of us that just wanna play it really loud on repeat for like no reason in particular. Not because it pushes buttons in my brain or anything.
Never gonna happen. I like our composer Sam too much to steal his kudos like that.
You can however listen to the entire Magnus Protocol soundtrack to date here and Bonzo’s theme is available here.
TMAGP 19
Hey y'all,
Just thought I would try something this week and give a couple of thoughts on today’s episode. (I might do it again in future, I might not, let’s see.)
Personal Thoughts:
I have to admit I was nervous about this one. I have taken lead researching the historical elements of Protocol and part of me is always terrified that someone will drop me a line and be like “FYI this makes no sense” and then I realise they are right.
That said, I have checked and double checked though so it’s probably fine right? Also frankly I didn’t really have to make that much stuff up. History in this period is absolutely bananas.
Fun fact for this episode: The Gilded Gallows. Look it up.
Backstage insight: I don’t deliberately keep including Newton in my work. The guy just has a lot of links to him on Wikipedia y'know? Also I super enjoy writing old-timey.
Further Reading:
If you are interested in the topics I recommend the following (on the understanding that they do not contain secrets for the show or anything I just think they are good):
1) Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood
2) Outliers Podcast S2E1 Crack of Thunder by Gabrielle Urbina of Wolf359 fame
3) The Ritman Library in Amsterdam
I know you probably can’t answer because of spoilers, but is there any chance you could confirm we don’t hear any harm done to children in Protocol? Jack’s introduction has set me a bit on edge, things happening to kids is a huge trigger for me.
Happy to answer this one. We are following the same rules as Archives, if you are introduced to an animal or child as a character, (basically if they are named) they will be all right in the end. They may encounter peril but will not be harmed. (see ep 19 as an example).
Please give us updates on your dog.
Refuses to eat experimental metallic crystalline fruit. Sad times, I just want somebody to play chess with.
After last episode I was wondering if you guys were Fullmetal Alchemist fans??
Yes and the references are intentional.
Fuck Marry Kill with the Protocol characters ? This does include Mr Bonzo as a bear and not a twink.
Why on earth would I want to engage in sexual intercourse with every Magnus Protocol character then immediately marry them only to immediately end their lives?
Getting married involves so much paperwork and then having to act as next of kin executor for so many people simultaneously? Never mind the tax implications!
No I think I’ll just stick to killing thanks.
Hi Alex, which Magnus characters do you think would thrive in Night Vale?
Most of them really. It’s a pretty wholesome place to live as long as you don’t go near the dog park.
Hi Alex! Really enjoyed episode 20, wondering if the feelings on parasocial relationships were somewhat autobiographical? It’s always an interesting and relevant topic in our world. Thanks ☺️
So that case was actually primarily written by Jonny with me as Editor. The character was always going to be engaging with that side of modern culture and I can’t speak for Jonny but it’s definitely not autobiographical at my end. I’ve said before, I am more afraid of the cruelty of modern fandoms and influencers than I am empowered by it. At best I could maybe argue I have more of an insight than your average joe but that’s not saying much.
Hi Alex, saw the livestream got cancelled, hope you’re doing ok!
I was wondering- did you and Jonny meet in a civil service job, or private sector? Because there’s a lot in protocol that’s very accurate. (Just started a CS job). Of course this could just be your sterling research skills, but even in archives I wondered if there was direct experience informing the fiction.
Though, theres a lot of overlap in dumb jargon for private and CS. I will absolutely punch a hole in my computer if Lena tells Gwen she has to engage in agile thinking 😒
thanks for your time 🙂
So the O.I.A.R. is entirely based on the jobs that Jonny and I held when we first met. It was private sector but all of it, the weird job interview, the ancient computers, the unnecessary night work, even the location of the offices is all pretty damn accurate. The only difference is that what we had to summarise, whilst still horrifying, was much more late-stage capitalism horror stories than murderous puppets or whatever.
In terms of civil service stuff, I do my research and know plenty of people who work there.
Weirdly enough I suppose that means that if I was Sam (since I joined later) and Jonny was Alice (in that he was weirdly acclimatised already) that would mean that Sam and Alice both quit to make horror podcasts about their time at… oh god. I’ve gone all recursive.
Is TMAGP having a hiatus or something? Because it's friday and ep 21 still hasn't come out yet.
Yes.
Protocol will have a short hiatus every 10 episodes with a longer one between seasons that has bonus content in it. This is to avoid production crunch for the team whilst also giving our other show Neon Inkwell the care and attention it needs.
Afraid I am not in charge of such announcements any more so can’t speak to when and where it has been said.
