I'm obsessed with the way you draw the musculature on bodies in your art! Also the way you draw Yasha and Beau, you give them so much character! Can I ask how you go about drawing bodies like that? I'm trying to get a handle on drawing muscle in the 3d space more realistically and if you have any tips I'd really appreciate it 💜
Hi there!
Thank you for the nice words!
As for how to draw bodies and muscles, I can only recommend learning extensively about anatomy in general.
A great starting point could be to get some anatomy books for artists.
We have a great series in France and I believe you can find English versions too. It’s called Morpho by Michel Lauricella. Otherwise, You can also follow someone called Modern Day James on Youtube. Their channel is a great source of information for drawing with a lot of technical explanations too!
To have a good representation in 3D space you need to understand how the body works first. What the main shapes/muscles/joints look like and how they work with one another to form a human body. (that’s where the book I referenced earlier intervenes)
Once you have a good grasp of anatomy (no need to know everything by heart, as long as you commit the major things to memory) you can start having fun with it. Stylize it, exaggerate it, try and experiment to find your own style! Inspire yourself from other people’s styles. Obesrve and learn what is or isn’t aesthetically pleasing to represent.
Otherwise, If you are motivated enough to spend time drawing and try to do it regularly, you should definitively improve. Commitment, and spending time mastering the tools, softwares, and techniques is a must (at least in my opinion).
Every trade or skill takes time to learn and that’s normal. I have been drawing actively for more than 10 years now. (when I say actively it’s with a precise goal in mind)
I wish you the best of luck and hope this answers your question!
