this disappearing of dms looks a bit like a shadow ban. i think if you reached out to support they should be able to fix it in a couple of weeks if that’s the problem.

the funniest thing is that when i’d looked through their faq before i reached out to their support, they had this proudly displayed on this page:

we’ll see what it actually is. i’ve had to reach out to them three times these past several days (the first one was because one of my side blogs had just up and disappeared, how fun!) and i’m yet to receive anything other than their automated replies. which is fine, things take time, but knowing about other users’ experience with tumblr support, i don’t have much hope LOL
