i'm perennially in love with your work but lately i've been so curious about your rendering process. mainly, do you work in solid blocks of color, or do you use transparent layers to build up your values? ive started doing traditional oil painting and some of the glazing techniques remind me of the way your skin tones look!

95% the former! every so often i would use a separate layer to sketch out the lighting, but then i merge it with the main underpainting and continue rendering on one layer. that’s so fun that my art reminds you of some oil techniques, i actually didn’t know transparent layers could be used in oil painting beyond pretty much just one or two finishing lacquers/glazes! putting this on my ‘to read up on’ list.
