zmeess:

a sketch spread depicting Caleb Widogast from Critical Role, based on and referenced from various bits of in-game roleplay. he is a freckled man with hair just long enough to put in a small messy ponytail. in some sketches he has a full beard, in some only a little bit of stubble. the drawings are done in a semi-realistic style and focus on the subtlety of facial expression. many are head shots, some are larger; one of them depicts him casting Acid Arrow, a magical arrow stretched between his arms, in a semblance of drawing a real bow. in another, he has one of his arms up in a tense gesture, casting Cat's Ire. in a third, he is being hugged by Beauregard, his head held close to her chest; he seems almost limp, accepting the hug with a thousand yard stare, while Beau smiles into his hair.ALT

another Caleb expression sheet, this time mid-campaign Caleb 🤩 same wizard, more friends! tried to keep the blood splatter setting and the beard level consistent with whatever was happening in the game at the time (in MOST of these at least)

zmeess:

digital two-panel comic illustrating an exchange between Caleb and Essek from Critical Role. it is drawn in a semi-realistic sketchy style; in the first panel, an off-camera Caleb inquires, "how high does this darkness rise?". Essek, looking up and to the side, as if recalling information, nonchalantly responds with "Oh, about a mile." in the second panel Caleb says, with an earnest and quietly awed expression, "that's fascinating", with 'fascinating' italicized to show the emphasis it was said with in-game.ALT

today i bring to you: illustrating the wizards talking the only way they can talk

a sketchy two-panel comic done in a semi-realistic style depicting Caleb Widogast from Critical Role. he is having an exchange about the Sending spell with an off-screen Jester, asking, "Do we need to bust out the above the word max, or can we just be–", to which Jester replies, "No. It can just be simple this time. What if I just go like, Do, do, do, do, do!", with the "do's" decorated with little musical notes to indicate her singing, as well as a small impish Jester head next to the speech bubble. Caleb is smiling in the first panel, his posture comfortable, and in the second panel he is bursting out laughing, leaning forward with the force of it, his eyes scrunched up and cheeks rounded with an open smile.ALT

another Caleb expression study because i needed to draw the boy laughing for once (and of course it was in response to something Jester had said)

digital head shot sketch of Essek Thelyss from Critical Role, a semi-realistic redraw of the animated series screen shot that was posted in the recent Entertainment Weekly article. the screenshot itself is pasted to the right of the sketch as a point of reference. Essek is depicted as a young-looking dark elf with short hair, with longer wavy bangs swept to one side. his pointy ears are decorated with ear caps, and he is looking intently at something in front of him and a bit down, with a tired but intrigued and analytical look.ALT

i had to sketch him real quick before bed or it would have been a no sleep kind of scenario for me
