commission for @nyarlie, who requested an illustration of one of the most wizard moments of campaign 2 ever 😏 featuring a clean-shaven dirt wizard, which was very fun to paint! i don’t draw Caleb without his signature scruff often, but he definitely makes such a handsome lad 🤭 this scene is one of my favorite for the way it characterizes both Caleb and Essek, and i was very happy to rewatch it several times as i worked on this painting.

the way i picture the ninth floor of Caleb’s tower (and the space “inside” the beacons) might be a bit unconventional, but i am very much in love with the initial soft gray and starry imagery of dunamancy we had in c2, so it was a special treat for me to be allowed the creative freedom to paint it as such. thank you for commissioning me 💜

Dorian is looking at him with an incredibly confused expression, question marks exploding around him. in the next two panels, Caleb says to Orym with an intense face, "If not now, when?", and Orym is staring down with wide eyes, sweat beading on his forehead, multiple question marks running in a row behind him. at the bottom, Essek is in his drow form, wearing a comfortable house robe, his wild curly hair pushed back with a sleeping mask resting high on his head. he is drinking from a coffee mug, holding a sending stone in the other hand, and says "Do you think our intervention has helped?". below him in a different panel and clearly in a different physical space, Caleb is holding his sending stone up to his mouth with one hand, and has a small toy alligator in the other, inspecting it carefully. he responds, "Absolutely. We were exceedingly straightforward with our advice, I am positive they've asked each other out by now."ALT
