The Red Knight Samson for Halloween

“Our neighbours tell about the quiet moans and the hunched pale shadow that crawls in the woods. It is not a wounded beast - it is a rebel knight who was punished for dishonorable fight. His soul staggers through the woods and seeks a new sword in return for his broken one. And when he appears to people, their life become miserable, and the knights and the travelers are those who suffer the most. That’s why our fathers and grandfathers wenture to these woods to pay the tribute to the wraith. Bring the sharpened blade to the glade near the mossy stone. The knight will take it and leave his broken sword in its stead. The people say once the Knight was glorified and honored, but the unfair King fooled and betrayed him. The Knight was angry, he abandoned his kingdom and went to the mad Sorcerer, who enchanted his sword and promised him new life and new victories. But the price was to be paid: the Knight had to bring the King’s head to the wizard, so that he could sit on a throne himself. The knight braced himself and left to face the king but the unenviable destiny was waiting for him. He defeated the young Knight who was sent by the King and cut his head off with the enchanted sword. But he was wounded and tired and his sword was broken in the fight. The young Knight’s squires tied him up and left him in the forest to die. Soon he perished and the crows feasted on his body. He was called The Red Knight ever since. Now he stagges through the woods and howls quietly - till he finds the new sword to fight the Young Knight’s furious spirit. They both know their fight is to be won by no one.”

Oh and my Headless Horseman Cullen was meant to be a companion piece for ost’s knight Samson and they share a story of origin

Last year I designed and illustrated a book for my book design class in college, and it turned out really well. The text itself is a part of a short story by Maxim Gorky, and it’s one of my favorite short stories of all time. (sorry for the lame photos)

I consider printing a limited number of copies and selling them, and I wonder if you guys would be interested in buying something like that. Please let me know what you think!

Hi! the book looks pretty! Just wondering if you have the rights to print it considering it's not your text...

Well I doubt that Maxim Gorky is going to file a copyright infringement complaint since he passed away in 1936 🤔 Both the text and the translation are in public domain
