Toronto's Most Consistent Dry Cleaners

Four generations, four locations, one standard held since 1929.

Ninety-Plus Years of a Consistent Toronto Standard

Gibson's Cleaners opened in 1929. The city looked different then. The industry looked different. What stayed the same across four generations of ownership is the belief that garment care is a craft, and craft only holds up when someone is genuinely paying attention.

The business is still family-run today. Rob McConnell serves as President and CEO, with Linley McConnell as Vice President and Rui Valente also in leadership. The current generation grew up in the plant. They understand the work from the ground up, not from a spreadsheet.

Over the years the operation expanded from a single Davenport Road location to the four Etobicoke and Toronto storefronts running today. The Kingsway on Dundas Street West serves as the main production plant. Bloor West Village handles the neighbourhood between High Park and Runnymede. La Rose Plaza covers Richview and Humber Heights. Advance Road is our dedicated alterations studio.

Every location handles the full range of services. Every garment goes through the same careful evaluation. That approach is why customers who came to us decades ago still come to us today, and why their children are now customers too.

1929
Gibson's Cleaners is founded in Toronto. The original location on Davenport Road operates as a dye house that also handles textiles including uniforms during the war years.
Mid-Century
Ownership transitions through the second generation. The business grows into a full-service dry cleaner serving Toronto's west end.
1980s to Present
Rob McConnell joins the family business. The company expands, adding locations across Etobicoke and modernizing operations while keeping the same family-owned standard.
Today
Fourth-generation leadership with Linley McConnell continuing the family involvement. Four locations, full specialty capabilities across dry cleaning, wedding gowns, Canada Goose, leather, couture, and household care.

Six Things That Define Gibson's Cleaners

Not marketing points. Actual operating principles that have been part of this business for nearly a century.

🏆

Nearly a Century of Practice

Since 1929, Gibson's has been part of Toronto's west end. That kind of longevity in a single business only comes from consistently getting the work right.

👪

Genuinely Family-Owned

Fourth-generation family involvement in day-to-day operations. Decisions are still made by people whose name is on the door, not by a distant corporate office.

📍

Four Physical Locations

The Kingsway, Bloor West Village, La Rose Plaza, and Advance Road. Real storefronts, real staff, not a fulfillment address hidden behind a slick website.

📈

Individual Garment Assessment

Every piece is looked at before it enters the cleaning process. Fabric, construction, embellishments, wear points. The plan for cleaning it is decided before we touch it.

💎

Specialty Services That Matter

Wedding gowns, Canada Goose parkas, couture pieces, leather, suede. These have been core capabilities for decades, not services added to look complete.

Alterations In-House

Our Advance Road studio has a dedicated seamstress with more than fifteen years of tailoring experience. Fittings by appointment, walk-ins welcome.

The Standard We Hold Ourselves To

Every dry cleaner claims to care about quality. What separates Gibson's is the track record. Customers who started coming to us in the 1970s are still coming to us. Their children became customers. That kind of loyalty does not come from marketing, it comes from consistent work over time.

The standard is simple to state and harder to actually maintain: every garment should come back in better condition than we received it. Achieving that requires individual attention, appropriate technique for each fabric and construction, and staff with the experience to execute both.

Nothing gets outsourced. Cleaning, finishing, and alterations all happen at our own locations, handled by our own team. That is the only way the standard stays consistent across four physical locations and nearly a century of operation.

How We Actually Operate
